Design icons inspire Philippe Starck’s new chair for Kartell

Product designer Philippe Starck has created a new chair for Kartell inspired by contemporary iconic designs.

The back of the Masters chair combines elements from Arne Jacobsen’s Series Seven chair, the Tulip armchair by Eero Saarinen and the Eiffel chair by Charles Eames to form a hybrid of the three iconic pieces.

The chair, which measures 84cm in height, is made from polypropylene and will be produced in seven colours, including black, white and red brick. It will be available in the UK from September.

Starck says, ‘Times are changing, everything is being devalued. Before, we had one master which was a lot already – now we need three to make one which is just enough.’
