Jack Morton works on World Cup ceremonies

The closing ceremony of the football World Cup in South Africa will ‘celebrate the fans’ and is being delivered by Jack Morton Worldwide, which will provide creative, production and technical consultancy.

The opening ceremony was about reintroducing South Africa to the world, according to David Zolkwer, director of public events at Jack Morton and creative director to the South African ceremonies.

Zolkwer says, ‘The closing ceremony will build on that – how great the country, continent and tournament have been – but there won’t be such a detailed narrative. We’ll celebrate the fans.’

The show, which takes place at Soccer City on 11 July, will ‘start in the terraces’, represent all fans from the tournament and ‘allude to games played’, says Zolkwer.

‘We want fans to recognise themselves in the story, instead of just celebrating the theatre and pomp of the World Cup and Fifa,’ adds Zolkwer.

Jack Morton Worldwide has worked with consultancies VWV Group and Till Dawn Entertainment.
