Sean Carney to take over as Philips chief design officer

Sean Carney is set to take over as chief design officer at Royal Philips Electronics when current incumbent Stefano Marzano retires later this year.

Carney, currently chief design officer of Philips Consumer Lifestyle, will take on the role from 1 November, alongside his current role.

Carney joined Philips in March from Hewlett-Packard, where he was group director of consumer design and experience for imaging and Web solutions.

After graduating from Birmingham City University, he also worked for Electrolux and Grow Partners.

Marzano, who retires in November, has been with Philips since 1973 and has been in his current role since 1991.

Frans van Houten, chief design officer at Philips, says, ‘In his 20 years leading design for the company, Marzano has shaped a design competence and team that has been a key differentiator for the company.’

He adds, ‘He is a recognised design leader who has been successful to make design integral to Philips’ mission to create meaningful innovations to improve people’s lives.’
