Owt goes – success, failure and inspiration in Manchester
Malcolm Garrett, Music’s Craig Oldham and Kiosk founder David Bailey will be sharing their thoughts on success, failure and inspiration at the first ever OWT Discourse event, taking place in Manchester early next month.
The Owt Discourse series of talks is organised by design collective Owt (meaning ‘anything’, in Southern), and its inaugural evening forms part of Manchester School of Art’s 175 year Celebrations.
Compered by former Hacienda DJ Dave Haslam, the speakers will first give a brief talk (which, the website playfully warns us, will be ‘going off topic’), before answering questions submitted online, at the event via projected twitter feed and from the audience.
Among numerous other projects (which have included creating a paper Gerald dog) Owt collective publishes a regular design zine. The next edition will be framed around submissions inspired by the Owt Discourse talk, and these will also ‘determine the format and influence the art direction’, according to Owt.
Owt Discourse takes place on1 July from 6-10pm at the Deaf Institute, 135 Grosvenor St, Manchester M1. For more information visit www.owtdiscourse.org.uk
