John Spencer brands Fair Education Alliance

The Fair Education Alliance, a new coalition of UK education organisations, is launching with branding by John Spencer of Off the Top of my Head.

The FEA brings together organisations including Barnado’s, KidsCo, Save the Children and the Prince’s Trust, and will campaign to close the achievement gap between children from poorer backgrounds and their wealthier peers.

The identity is based around an ‘A’, inspired by teachers’ grades, which represents the Alliance. Spencer worked on the identity with typographer Alan Meeks.

The main identity colours are black and red, but the logo can appear in any of the Alliance members’ colours.

Spencer says, ‘The idea for the symbol came from teachers’ grades. It’s so obvious anyone will get it.

‘But by changing the context of the “A” we’ve changed its meaning. A is for Alliance. And it’s for ambition, access and achievement.’
