Dott 07 launches today

As Dott 07 launches officially today in the North East of England, the project’s red ball logo will be seen across the area, while public performances, exhibitions and events begin to roll out.

Dott 07 – which takes its name from the title Designs Of The Time – is a year of community projects based in the North East, which explore what life in a sustainable region could be like and how design can help to reach that outcome.

Focusing on six areas of daily life – health, food, school, travel, energy and tourism – Dott 07 asks people to consider design in a wider context and beyond the design of clothes, their cars or the products they use.

The projects include a Cyborg exhibition, designed by Land Design, at Newcastle’s Discovery Museum, looking at how robotics may feature in the future, as well as an urban farming project in Middlesbrough.

The year culminates in a festival in Newcastle Gateshead in October, which will bring together all the projects and their results. Dott 07 is to announce the consultancy that will design the final festival on 20 March.

This year’s project is the first in a ten-year biennial roll-out of Dott events around the country. It is jointly funded by One North East and the Design Council.
