Art Dubai set to kick off

Renamed contemporary art fair Art Dubai opens this week with rebranding by Together Design.

The show is changing its name from The Gulf Art Fair and the London-based design consultancy is creating the logo and brand identity for the second time after working on last year’s exhibition.

Its designs will be applied across all disciplines including the website, flyers, ticketing, banners, posters and an accompanying art book. They are also being used on the accompanying ad campaign.

The consultancy’s creative director Katja Thielen says, ‘In terms of graphic design the fair’s logo had to be modern, but also reflect Middle Eastern traditions.’

‘The inspiration comes from a Moorish pattern but has been given a modern twist. Rather than being overly ornate it has a more rigid Western feel.’

Premiering at Art Dubai this year is Art Park, a project space devoted to experimental work including video, with a name and logo also created by Together.

Art Dubai, the Middle East’s first contemporary art fair, runs from 19-22 March at the Madinat Arena.

It will be hosting nearly 70 galleries from the Middle East, Asia, Europe, North and South America, North Africa and Australia.
