B&B Italia moves outdoors

B&B Italia unveils its first outdoor collection in its newly designed and extended showroom in London’s South Kensington on Thursday.

The store on Brompton Road, SW3, contains a garden installation designed by Stephen Woodhams, and will be used to show off B&B Italia’s outdoor collection, Canasta designed by Patricia Urquiola and Swell Seating and 1966 Collection designed by Richard Shultz.

Woodham’s garden creation is over-scale to reflect the 6m architectural height of the showroom, and is intended to blur the boundaries between inside and outside space, to reflect that B&B Italia’s new collection can be used in the garden or in the home.

He uses magnolia grandiflora trees and white hyacinths in both the store’s interior and exterior.

The hyacinths line the full length of the glass window exterior, ‘creating the illusion of flowers floating through the glass’, says a spokeswoman for B&B Italia.

The installation will be on display until 30 March; the new outdoor collection and products can be viewed at www.bebitalia.com.
