UK Trade & Investment has commissioned a film to promote British design groups including Priestman Goode and Conran & Partners to design buyers around the world.

Called Love and Money: 50 Years of Creative Britain, the eight-minute film will be aired at several events this year, including the London Design Festival, and on UKTI missions to China, Taiwan and Singapore.

Other UK designers to feature in the promotional film include James Dyson. Classic designs from the past 50 years will also make appearances, including Sinclair’s Black Watch calculator and the Mini Cooper.

Besides design, the film will showcase British architecture and art, ‘to show off the power of the UK’s creative industries and let it be known in Asia that the UK has Europe’s biggest creative industries sector’, according to a UKTI spokesman.

‘If you go to China, people still associate the UK with heritage and bowler hats, so this film will form part of our evidence base for changing that perception,’ he adds.

Love and Money: 50 Years of Creative Britain launches tomorrow at an event in London’s Mayfair, hosted by the Minister for Trade and Investment Lord Mervyn Davies.

That’s nice, we were on the UKTI design roster for four years and we didn’t get a job for three of those four years, so don’t order that porsche just yet.
