Blood, Sweat and Fears magazine goes interactive
Although we’re not sporting ‘the end is nigh’ placards just quite yet, the future of print media has been debated to distraction over the last year. Although most are championing the Web as the trade’s future platform of choice, students from Central Saint Martins and London College of Fashion have come up with an altogether wackier proposition.
Next week live magazine Blood, Sweat & Fears will transform print magazine elements into a week-long interactive event. Participatory photo shoots, interviews, illustration and a printing press (in the form of screenprinting from We Make T-shirts) will all feature in the live magazine, as well as musicians, a celebrity-look-alike hair stylist and a jellymonger.
Organiser Chelsea Cambell says, ‘Offline, designers are looking to create new experiences to display collections – whether affected by the recession, influenced by sustainability or inspired by how their work can be seen by a worldwide online audience. The live experience is becoming a vital channel within communications.’
The event aims to raise money for Art Against Knives, a charity that hopes to keep young people away from knife crime by creating opportunities to nurture artistic talent.
Blood, Sweat & Fears runs from the 17th-21st March at 65/67 Broadwick Street. We’re still slightly perplexed about the role of a jellymonger in magazine-making but maybe that’s what Design Week has been missing.

Hi , Fourteen international designers, typographers, artists and illustrators were asked to do just that for graphics and typography exhibition Lyrics and Type, at Brick Lane’s East Gallery this month.
