Eye Writer wins inaugural Future Everything Award

The Eye Writer, a pair of low-cost eye-tracking glasses that allows artists and graffiti writers to draw using only their eyes, has won the inaugural £10 000 Future Everything prize.

The US project, worked up by members of Free Art and Technology, Graffiti Research Lab, Open Frameworks, The Ebeling Group and Tony Quan, saw off more than 1000 submissions from around the world to scoop the prize.

Three finalists were selected by a judging panel, and the winner was chosen by a vote open to members of the Future Everything community.

Future Everything is an art, technology and social innovation organisation that runs innovation labs and an annual festival – which is being held this year in Manchester from 13-15 May.

The Eye Writer is also in the running for the Brit Insurance Design of the Year Award, which is being presented on 16 March, having already won in the BIDY interactive category.
