Heather Martin takes on interaction role at Smart Design

Smart Design has appointed Heather Martin as director of interaction design at its Barcelona office. She joins from the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design, which she co-founded.

Martin was appointed to the new role in October 2009 after a selection process that began in August. She says, ‘Smart Design had been looking for someone to take on this role for quite some time but hadn’t found the right candidate.’

The position involves acting as creative director to the Barcelona team, working with her counterparts in the consultancy’s New York and San Francisco offices, and developing new business.

‘Although we’re based in Barcelona, we have a lot of clients in the rest of Europe,’ says Martin. ‘I’ll be responsible for growing this wing of Smart Design and building up [its portfolio of] European clients.’

Martin has previously held positions at Ideo, Tangerine and Interaction Design Institute Ivrea, where she was academic director.
