UK Space Agency takes off with Folio Creative logo

Folio Creative has created a visual identity for the UK Space Agency, which launched today.

Folio Creative won the tender at the beginning of March following a creative pitch. The consultancy has previously worked on projects for British National Space Centre.

The logo was unveiled this morning by Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Lord Mandelson and Science and Innovation Minister Lord Drayson. It features a segment of the British flag turning into an arrow motif.

Folio Creative managing director David Bartholomew says, ’The logo reflects the forward-looking nature of the new agency. It had to indicate the exploration of space, but also reference Britishness.’

UKSA will be responsible for developing the country’s space programme and represent the UK’s interests within the European Space Agency. A £40m International Space Innovation Centre will be built at Harwell.

The Government hopes that UKSA will play a leading role in Britain’s economic recovery and inspire students to pursue the Stem subjects of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The space and satellite industry currently supports 68 000 jobs in the UK and contributes £6.5bn to the economy.
