Designing Demand continues with Government backing

The Government says it will continue to provide financial support for the Designing Demand programme, set up by the Design Council.

The future of the Designing Demand scheme had looked to be in doubt after the Government announced that the regional development agencies which delivered the scheme would be scrapped. The Design Council had insisted that the programme would continue despite the RDAs being axed.

Now the Government has announced that it will support the scheme as one of 13 initiatives in the Solutions for Business national business support package.

The Design Council says the delivery of the Designing Demand programme will be reshaped following the restructure of the Design Council and as the RDAs are replaced by Local Enterprise Partnerships.

Ellie Runcie, director of design innovation services and networks at the Design Council, says, ‘We are delighted to hear today that following the refinement of the Solutions for Business portfolio, design mentoring will be part of the toolkit to be used by the new Local Enterprise Partnerships and SMEs will again be able to benefit from expert design mentoring.’
