Football kit and caboodle

For its first solo show, husband-and-wife art and design team Quiet British Accent presents an interesting take on football paraphernalia.

Aiming to ‘explore the unrealistic expectations of the hero and fan relationship’, the show features hand-drawn textile typography on football shirts, some interesting takes on trading cards and some slightly obscure pop culture references.

The Kit & Caboodle show builds on QBA’s recent Football Activism series, and aims to highlight connections between pop culture and football.

Thus a Manchester City shirt is adorned with the phrase ‘I don’t know much about art but I Noel what I like’, a reference, presumably to celeb Man City fan Noel Gallagher.

QBA says the typography aims to emulate that scrawled on pencil cases, exercise books, denim jackets etc ‘as if by a fan’.

A series of fluorescent risograph prints, meanwhile, present a take on football trading cards with the expressionless players backed with some rather unflattering slogans (‘this town is shit, but you’re worth it’).

Kit & Caboodle is at Core at Nolias Gallery, 60 Great Suffolk Street, London SE1, from 25-27 April.

I like the top football shirt packaging, but inside the clothes is really not a good look.
