Le Gun takes on Grimm Tales
When it comes to reimagining the images from The Brothers Grimm’s dark, surreal fairytales, illustration collective Le Gun seems a very fitting choice to take on the task.
And take on the task they have, creating a series of new illustrations ahead of the staging of Philip Pullman’s Grimm Tales for Young and Old.
Pullman’s version of the tales saw him rework his 50 favourite stories, which include classics such as Snow White and Cinderella, as well as lesser-known (and brilliantly-named) tales as The Three Snake Leaves, Hans-my-Hedgehog and Godfather Death.
Now, these tales are to be set for the stage, in a new interactive production at east London’s Shoreditch Town Hall. According to organisers, the audience will be able to interact with the characters, adding yet another strange element to the stories.
Le Gun has create a series of illustrations for the stories to be staged – Little Red Riding Hood, Hans My Hedgehog, The Juniper Tree, The Three Snake Leaves and Rapunzel – perfectly capturing the darkly weird, yet charming, elements to these children’s narratives of villains, heroes, damsels and hedgehogs.
The illustrations will be available in the show’s programme, which costs £5.
Philip Pullman’s Grimm Tales for Young and Old is being staged at Shoreditch Town Hall, 380 Old St, London EC1V from 14 March – 24 April . For more information visit www.grimm-tales.co.uk
