Last year was a buoyant period for UK design, according to the findings of Design Week’s 2008 Top 100 survey. During 2007, overall fee-income was up 12 per cent to a collective £375m for consultancies ranked in the Top 100, with a high proportion anticipating growth of 10 per cent or more in 2008.

Imagination remains on top, though its fees of £31m barely changed from 2006. It could face a serious challenge from acquisitive marketing services conglomerate Loewy Group, which ranks second this year with fees of £21.12m, secured largely through the acquisition.

Major growth is also reported by broadcast design specialist Red Bee Media and digital groups Syzygy, Conchango and Reading Room, reinforcing reports that digital design is experiencing a boom.

The full Top 100 supplement is published with today’s Design Week magazine and the tables will go live online tomorrow.
