Developers win Green accolade

Four property developers have emerged as leading Green companies in a poll by The Sunday Times yesterday.



The newspaper’s first the Green List cites Canary Wharf Contractors, Berkeley Homes, Liberty International and Gentoo Group in its 50-strong league table.



The list ranks companies according to their policies, training and motivation, reporting and communication and performance as well as surveying employees to find out how Green the companies appear from the inside.



Blackfriars-based architect MCM is ranked ninth, making it the Greenest company in the capital.



MCM has a dedicated environment department and an annual Green budget of £20 000. In the newspaper’s rankings, it is given a 77 per cent Green score.



Topping the table is manufacturing company J C Atkinson and Son, with Green retailers include Milton Keynes’ Thecentre:mk in 30th place and London’s Brent Cross shopping centre in 33rd.



Media was another category which scored highly, with the National Magazine Company being placed tenth and Pindar Set at 29th.



Fourth on the list is printing and publishing company Pureprint Group, while London advertising company Clear Channel Outdoor UK was given the 22nd Green slot.



Only two educational organisations were singled out in the Green stakes – Loughborough Students’ Union at seventh and Leeds Metropolitan University at 36th.
