Korean mobile and electronics group LG is poised to open its London design hub and is approaching designers in the capital.

According to Design Week intelligence, headhunters have been enlisted to begin ramping up the future operation, and designers working for rival groups in the mobile sector are being quietly approached.

Several senior designers within the industry confirm that they have been approached by representatives of LG in the UK. No appointments have yet been announced.

LG has confirmed to Design Week that it intends to open the studio this year and has ambitious plans for the centre. The mobile giant is relocating its Milan design studio to London, from where it will head up its design and research operations for the European market.

The Milan studio is a satellite hub of the LG Electronics Corporate Design Centre based in Seoul, Korea.
