Student wins £4000 Irish design bursary

The Institute of Designers in Ireland has awarded industrial design student Colm Keller €5000 (£4000) to study at Goteburg University in Sweden.

The Frank Ryan Student Travel Bursary will help cover Keller’s maintenance and study costs as he works towards an MA in design there.

Having recently graduated from the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, Keller says he intends to use his award to help him present his work at exhibitions in Stockholm and Berlin.

The bursary was established last year to fund students pursuing an international educational opportunity or a design project overseas.

A founding member of the Institute of Designers in Ireland, the late Frank Ryan specialised in retail interiors, showrooms, exhibition stands and visitor centres. He also worked on the Irish pavilion at Expo ’92 in Seville.

Keller was awarded the bursary at a gala dinner at Dublin Castle last Friday evening.
