Cities make a mark

As most of the country was resting over the bank holiday weekend, Scandinavian design consultancy Norwegian Ink was putting the finishing touches on its plans for world domination.

On 1 May  Norwegian Ink launched its global branding project CitID, which aims to see every city in the world represented by a logo, typography or visual identity. Designers from across the globe have been invited to define their city with creative work in an attempt to document different trends and styles across the planet.

Norwegian Ink’s Frode Nordbø  says, ‘Eventually we’re hoping that CitID will become a place where one can find new designers, be inspired by visual styles and bring attention to little known places on the planet.’

All the work will be initially shown on the CitID website and it will then be collated for a book. So far the project has reached every continent but it will not be complete until every inch of the globe is covered. At present UK designers include Socio Design, Sawdust, Andrew Council and Vector Meldrew, among others.

Socio Design’s London logo was based on the theme of connections to show the how the different  personalities of the London boroughs join together to create a dynamic larger entity. Bristol seen through Andrew Council’s eyes is a rampaging dinosaur constructed of the city’s architecture.
