The 300m2 store, which will open in St John Street on 25 May, will display Toto’s products and new furniture collection in fully working environments using a number of demonstration rooms. Mach Architektur has adopted Toto’s minimalist style for the interiors, which will include bamboo flooring and ambient lighting.
Toto also intends the space to be used as a hub for creative businesses in Clerkenwell, offering meeting rooms and space for events and exhibitions on the lower ground floor.
Mach Architektur was appointed to the project because of its attention to detail, use of traditional handcrafted materials and plans to do something different to conventional showroom spaces.
The architect had previously worked with Toto to create the company’s Europe headquarters in Dusseldorf and an exhibition at trade fair ISH Frankfurt in 2009.
Toto UK general manager Jill Player-Bishop says, ‘I’d like to feel that the new location in the heart of Clerkenwell and the non-conformist approach to this concept store will enhance the business and provide Toto with maximum exposure to key specifiers and architects in the area.’
