Laurence Kavanagh to take V&A craft residency

Laurence Kavanagh will be the next artist to take up a six-month craft residency at the Victoria & Albert Museum’s Sackler Centre in London.

Kavanagh has been selected by the Crafts Council and the V&A, and will take up the residency from July to December.

He will create new work throughout his residency, looking at specific objects in the V&A and Crafts Council collections, and creating sculptural works in response.

Kavanagh says, ‘Themes of time-travel and reincarnation are of specific interest to me. I intend to explore the craft of “automata” as a means to physically animate sculptural objects.’

Kavanagh will be the third of the V&A’s craft residents.
