Musicians create Selfridges window displays

Ten bands and artists including Florence & The Machine, Dizzee Rascal and Hot Chip have designed window displays for Selfridges, marking the store group’s Music in May season.

Starting today at Selfridges’ stores in London’s Oxford Street and Manchester’s Exchange Square, the dressed windows are a response to its Sounds of The Mind brief, which the retailer says is a reflection of the festival season and the ‘impact of song lyrics’.

Florence & The Machine’s Florence Welch, who has created a display inspired by her song Cosmic Love, says, ‘It’s about creating a representation of the song in a visual sense – what a song would look like, instead of hearing it.’

Dizzee Rascal will respond to his song Bonkers, and Hot Chip to its I Feel Better. Other participating bands and artists include: The XX, who will create a display based on the track Stars; Paloma Faith, who will use her song Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful?; and Empire of the Sun, using the song Walking on a Dream (pictured).

Windows by each band or artist will be unveiled daily over the next ten consecutive days, where they will remain until the end of June.
