Design Management Institute appoints new president

Karen Reuther has been appointed as the next president of US-based industry body the Design Management Institute.

Reuther, who takes up the role today, joins the DMI from branding consultancy Ziba Design in Portland in the US state of Oregon, where she was director of consumer insights and trends.

Before joining Ziba Design, Reuther was creative director at Nike and design director at Reuther Design in Munich.

Reuther will replace current president Thomas Lockwood, who is stepping down to focus on his new business Lockwood Resource, an international recruiting firm specialising in design and innovation.

Lockwood will remain at the DMI on a part-time basis as editor-in-chief of the DMI Review and DMI Journal and to conduct research.

Lockwood says, ‘Karen [Reuther] cares deeply about the advancement of design in business, and I am confident she will add her own perspective to the industry and do a great job carrying on the rich tradition of the Institute.’
