The consultancy was brought in to work on the project about 18 months ago to ‘develop’ and ‘refine’ the branding, according to a 999 spokesman. The YouView branding was initially created by ad group RKCR/Y&R, who renamed it from Project Canvas.

999 Design began working on the project in January 2011, having submitted proposals and some creative work against three or four other consultancies.

It inherited the blue and black colour palette and YouView logo from a pervious design, which the 999 spokesman says was created by another consultancy in collaboration with in-house teams from channels involved such as the BBC and Channel 4.

The identity will be shown across the YouView website +- and will be used for packaging designs for the set-top boxes, available later on this summer, and other touch points. The consultancy also created brand guidelines for the application of the identity.
