The exhibition at Kemistry Gallery portrays funny and offbeat everyday encounters through bold graphic design and wordplay.

French-born Jullien, who came to London to study, says ‘you’ll see some everyday observations that you can relate to and laugh at, as well as some sad but true stories we all witness everyday’.

The images also focus on society’s relationship with social media – particularly the smartphone – as a replacement for human relationships. Jullien shows such scenes as urban walkers glued to Google Maps on their iPhone, and a gig where people watch through phone cameras rather than with their own eyes.

Matthew Dent, gallery manager at the Kemistry, says, ‘We like to go online rather than talk to people. We go to bed with our phone waiting for a text message that will never come. Not many people show this in illustration.’

Jullien graduated from Central St Martins in 2008 and the Royal College of Art in 2010 and has had his work showcased in The Guardian, the New York Times, and at the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
