Back to school
While most schoolchildren are counting down the days until the Christmas holidays, Illustration and design collective Calm & Collected is taking a nostalgic trip back to the classroom with its new show, Learn.
Celebrating the wonderful and often-overlooked graphic designs of school textbooks, the show has seen the artists create a number of new works responding to posters and books from the classroom.
Educational graphics from subjects including English, geography, languages, maths and science are all represented, showing off Calm & Collected’s penchant for hand-rendered typography and illustration.
The show features all new-works, including prints, paintings and a number of framed objects, with a Calm & Collected-designed publication produced to accompany the show.
Among our highlights are this cute and colourful mountain scene:
This Miro-esque design, which we can only imagine, with our scraped maths GCSE, is something to do with geometry:
And of course, the ever-hilarious calculator display. We’ll leave it up to you to decipher what it says when read upside down.
Learn runs until 8 December at London Framing Workshop, 12 Felstead Street, Hackney Wick, London E9
