The Brilliant Britain project aims to celebrate ‘the charming peculiarities and time honoured traditions of the country it calls home,’ according to Mulberry.
This means ‘unsung heroes, undiscovered places, people and talents,’ according to Mulberry, as chosen by a panel including British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman, photographer Tim Walker and philosopher Alain de Botton.
Georgia Fendley is brand director of Mulberry and founder of Construct, which was tasked with designing the book, a 38 page booklet, comprising 11 sections including Craft, Fashion, Music, Art & Design, Architecture, Heritage & Culture.
Sections feature handrawn numbers, and a fold out map in the back shows the locations of the book’s stories.
Construct designer Peter Bell says, ‘Yellow Plaques, inspired by pub chalkboard signs are used for a British Trivia section, while a blue plaque, inspired by the scheme showing where notable figures through history have lived and worked show off key dates.’
A rosette sticker, the book’s main motif, can be peeled out of a middle section, photographed on an object nominated by readers and uploaded onto the website where a geographical map of Brilliant Britain will be populated.
The Your Brilliant Britain section is found in the book and on the website, where interactive features have been designed by Applied.
The book will be published online in full at www.brilliantbritainguide.com from 8 October when readers will also find Your Brilliant Britain and the interactive map which are two distinct sections.
Fendley says, ‘Conceived as a love letter from Mulberry to the nation this guide has been created to support the craftsmen and women, the designers, artists and innovators, the small businesses, the breath-taking landscapes, strange customs and delicious delicacies that make Britain so Brilliant.’
