Crafts Council shows off the best of British craft for the Olympics

With only a week to go until the Olympics opening ceremony, London and all its delights are more in the spotlight than ever. But as well as showing visitors that we’re capable of building the biggest MacDonalds in the world, the Crafts Council is keen that we show international business leaders our design talents too.

From next week, the British Business Embassy, to be held at Lancaster House, will host of 21 pieces of contemporary craft work, which will be seen by more than 3 000 UK and international business leaders over the course of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The Crafts Council has curated 18 rooms at Lancaster House to showcase the best in UK technology, engineering and the creative industries, selected by a panel chaired by John Sorrell and including Ed Vaizey MP, Sir Mark Jones, Iwona Blaswick and Rosy Greenlees, executive director of the Crafts Council.

Greenlees says,’The inclusion of a showcase of contemporary craft at the British Business Embassy highlights how significantly this sector contributes to the creative industries in the UK.

‘We have some of the most talented, ambitious and innovative makers in the world. They are rightfully taking their place alongside designers, artists and architects in what will be a tremendous showcase of unique British creativity.’

As well as loans from individual makers and galleries, the display includes several pieces from the Crafts Council Collection.

The showcase will include work by Grayson Perry, Nina Tolstrup and Donna Wilson.

The British Business Embassy will be at Lancaster House, Stable Yard, St James’s, London SW1A from 23 July – 9 September. Admittance by invite only.
