Chosen for the power to ‘enhance our sense of well-being further’ it succeeds Pantone 17-1463 Tangerine Tango which was selected as a recharging ‘energy boost,’ in 2011.

This year’s emerald colour will promote ‘balance and harmony’ and through its association with gemstones promote the evocation of sophistication and luxury says Pantone.

As well as being ‘the colour of beauty and new life in many cultures and religions’ Pantone says it sees emerald as the colour of ‘growth renewal and prosperity’ and adds that ‘for centuries many countries have chosen green to represent healing and unity.’

Pantone sees application potential across print and graphic design, fashion, beauty, interiors, plastics and packaging.

The interiors sector may look to use emerald paint, accents and accessories ‘bringing a luxurious feel in an entryway, powder room, dining room or study, and life to a living room as an accent wall,’ says Pantone.

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute says, ‘The most abundant hue in nature, the human eye sees more green than any other colour in the spectrum.

‘Symbolically, Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world. This powerful and universally-appealing tone translates easily to both fashion and home interiors.’
