How to say the most with the least

Earlier this year, Anthony Burrill went to São Paulo, Brazil to lead a six-day workshop with local designers looking at how to say the most with the least (or ‘quanto mais olho para trás, mais milagres eu vejo’ in Portuguese).

During the workshop, organised by Brazilian consultancy Mesa & Cadeira, the group worked to create a series of posters, based on the vernacular typography found on São Paulo streets, using phrases that sum up their individual philosophies.

Pense menos mas (think more less), meio vazio porque bebi (it is half empty because I drank it) and, bizarrely, sex with mosquitos (sic) (sexo com mosquitos) are among the contributions.

The posters are now going on show at London’s Kemistry Gallery, and on 12 July, Burrill, designer Francesca Wade and Barbara Soalheiro from Mesa & Cadeira will hold a seminar to discuss the workshop.
