The Awards – full title the Information is Beautiful Awards, inspired by Kantar – were launched last year by data visualisation guru David McCandless and WPP consumer insight consultancy Kantar.

More than 1000 entries were received, across categories including data journalism and interactive visualisation, and these have now been whittled down to a shortlist, which can be seen here: www.informationisbeautifulawards.com/2012/08/awardshortlist.

The shortlists entries will now be put forward for the showcase ‘Most Beautiful’ Award and prize money totalling £20 000.

Judges including Brian Eno, MoMA curator Paola Antonelli and Kantar creative director Aziz Cami will now work to select the winners, who will be announced on 27 September.
