Manchester based digital design company magneticNorth has been appointed by Google to create ‘Who Am I?’, a game designed to showcase its new WebRTC technology.

magneticNorth was approached by Google in March to develop a project that showcased the technology, which allows for real time communications such as web chats to take places without a computer needing any installations or plugins.

The idea was developed at the WebRTC Protothon event in Stockholm and is now being showcased at the Google I/O conference currently taking place in San Francisco.

The game allows users to invite an opponent to play, choosing a mystery celebrity identity for the other player. The aim is to guess your ‘identity’ before the other player, only asking and answering questions with a yes or no response.

Adam Todd, magneticNorth creative director, says,  ‘It’s not often you get the chance to work with such new technology and so closely with the people who are releasing it. Our hope is that people find our game fun but more importantly are inspired to go make something themselves with WebRTC and the other open projects we have used.’

The Google I/O conference, which runs until 29 June, showcases new web, mobile and social breakthroughs. Events include keynote speeches, networking with developers, technical sessions where visitors can experience new technologies and workshops, such as lessons on coding.

Among the new technologies being showcases are the Google Glass ‘smart’ glasses, designed to carry out the functions of a smartphone, that give the wearer the ability to send and receive sound, images and video via voice commands.

The Google Glass glasses are worn like usual glasses with a tiny display sitting above the right eye to show internet data. The technology has been demonstrated at a Google conference event by skydivers, who transmitted video as they abseiled down a building. According to Google, it’s hoped thy will be on sale to consumers within a year.

The conference has also seen Google unveil an own-branded tablet computer, called Nexus 7, which is being launched in partnership with Asus. Nexus Q, a home media-streaming entertainment device which runs the Android operating system has also been introduced.

Other official announcements have so far included Jelly Bean,  a new version of Android that can anticipate the touch signal the user will make next; Project Butter, which aims to make Android operate more quickly; and new 3D imagery for Google Earth for Android.

I love you Google. You make it so affordable for all to purchase your technology. Why is this to you actually care about people? I hope so you are wonderful and I have a few Ideas for programs I would Like to talk with someone about if possible. Love the Glasses of course. Eventually We will only have to think and it will be done. Then they will have total control. But if we all got what we wanted and could do everything we wished to do. Would we be happy? Or would it make us all spoiled and ignorant at some point to the struggle it took to get there. We need to have more appreciation for the discoveries that we discover and implement. Let’s start a wall with the people’s names that have made such break thru’s that shape are future. I bet you had this idea but I would like to see it happin. Thanks Again google. You are Good Glee..
