Our first round-up of news in brief for 2013.

Carling font

Echo has designed new bar fonts for Molson Coors-owned beer brand Carling, which are currently being rolled out into pubs, bars and clubs across the UK. The font delivers a 270° branding view, aiming to improve consumer interaction at the bar, according to Echo. This is the final stage of the Carling rebrand undertaken by Echo in 2011.

Departures has designed a guidebook to Cardiff for Welsh language  publisher Gwasg Gomer (Gomer Press). The consultancy created the branding for the book, the first in a series of guidebooks to various towns and cities in Wales, as well as designing, art directing and taking the photographs for the edition. The branding is based on a traditional Welsh blanket, aiming to ‘marry a sense of Welshness and tradition with something more contemporary’, according to Departures.

Hampshire-based consultancy White Communications Group has designed new packaging for snoring relief product Snoreze. The consultancy also designer new point of sale materials for the brand. The packaging is being gradually rolled out across the UK and Europe.

Men’s Fitness magazine has launched a new iPad app, designed by the Dennis in-house app development team, Dennis Media Factory. The app features the new MyPages tool, which allows readers to personalize each issue and share content with other users.

Ayyam Gallery will open in London on 24 January, with interiors designed by Lebanese architect and artist Nadim Karam. Karam will also be the inaugural artist to show at the gallery, with a solo exhibition of paintings and editions of steel sculptural works.

Simon Lake has been appointed managing director of consultancy Carnegie Orr.  He will be working with partners James Carnegie-Brown and Richard Orr to develop existing and prospective clients both in the UK and abroad, according to the consultancy.
