A round-up of this week’s news in brief.

University of Salford poster
 

Consultancy We Are Air has designed a marketing campaign for University of Salford as part of the organisation’s student recruitment drive, using a red sofa as ‘a visual metaphor for the best seat in higher education’, according to the consultancy. The campaign uses six-sheet posters, targeted Facebook and Google ads and online video content shown on YouTube and social networking sites.

Chooks logo

Mystery has created the branding for new chicken restaurant Chooks, with Central Design Studio working on interiors. The look and feel is influenced by ‘retro Americana’,  according to Central Design Studio, with a ‘raw and unrefined look.’

The Blockheads 35th logo

Eight design has designed the Blockheads 35th anniversary tour logotype, based closely on the original 1977 Barney Bubbles design. The logotype will be applied to a limited addition of tour t-shirts.

Leicestershire-based consultancy Mynt Design has been appointed to create a new children’s toy brand, Toys & Games, for the Al Maya Group in the Middle East. It will create the branding and interiors concept for the brand, with the first concept opening in October.

Architects Carmody Groarke and Julian Harrap are working on a new ground floor RIBA gallery. The space will exhibit the Architectural Library’s collection of models, photographs and drawings, including works by Sir John Soane, Sir Christopher Wren and Andrea Palladio at the Portland Place site in central London.

Vaseline Pink Bubbly

Hornall Anderson has designed the Vaseline’s Limited Edition Pink Bubbly tin. The designs are inspired by ‘the decadence of French Champagne’, according to the consultancy. Hornall Anderson also created gift-wrap, pre-order gift packs, and advertisements for Facebook and print magazines for the launch. The Pink Bubbly Vaseline which will sell exclusively in Selfridges this week before expanding to other outlets such as Boots, Superdrug, and supermarkets.

Tabitha logo

Aesop has designed the branding for accessories brand Tabitha of London, founded by Tabitha Somerset Webb, one half of Dannii Minogie’s Project D fashion label [. According to Aesop, the branding reflects Somerset Webb’s ‘fun loving, high energy personality’ to appeal to ‘hardworking, hard playing professional girls with a lust for life.’

Women's Cricket Poster

Milton Keynes-based Deep Red Creative has designed a campaign for England Women’s cricket, aiming to inspire more people to watch the sport ahead of September’s T20 series against the West Indies. The campaign uses the heading This Is England, with collector card images of the England squad, tag names and quotes aiming to give personality to the players. These are shown across a series of web banners, email and social media graphics, posters and leaflets.

Mary Steele biscuit range
 

Edinburgh-based consultancy Threebrand has created the branding and packaging for Mary Steele luxury biscuit range. The branding will be used across packaging, postcards, the brand’s micro-site and stationery.

Route Digital has designed a new website for 3D street artist Joe Hill, featuring a gallery section and online-video channel.

Vibe has worked with Global independent travel company, Travel Counsellors to create the Dream Maker Facebook app, based on ‘the concept of realising dreams and helping others to do the same.’ Users can create and share their dream holiday by uploading images and a description, with the chance of winning a £10,000 prize.

Goodhood

Design, art and clothing store Goodhood is launching a pop-up store next week, to be designed  by co-owners and Kyle Stewart and Jo Sindle, who have now also started design consultancy. MAMC.  Marking Goodhead’s fifth year in business, the space will feature new collaboration collections including Antipodium, Norse Projects, R. Newbold and Bag ‘N’ Noun.

Interior and textiledesigner Sue Timney is designing the Kaffee Fassett ­ A Retrospective exhibition at London’s Fashion and Textile Museum. The show will present the works of the textile designer when it opens later this month.
