Olympics-themed paper sculptures
Peter Blake, paper and – naturally – the Olympics have all proved inspiring for a forthcoming show at east London’s Book Club by illustrator Andrew Macgregor.
The exhibition, In It to Win It, will present three Olympic-themed paper installation pieces. The works reference vintage Olympic posters, and the exhibition will see colourful wall-mounted and ceiling-hung handcrafted installations, aiming to stir up a sense of energy and excitement, just as (we hope) the Games themselves will.
Macgregor says, ‘Paper is my material of choice nowadays, and I have come to really appreciate its capacity to take any given form. It’s an incredibly flexible material that in recent years has taken centre stage in modern visual communication, and it’s a privilege to be a part of that.’
As well as the Olympics and Peter Blake, the artist also cites Bob Peak, Otl Aicher, Max Bill, Per Arnoldi, Yong Seung-Choon, Herbert Bayer, Alan Fletcher and Milton Glaser as inspirations.
In it to win it runs from 19 July – 9 September at The Book Club 100-106 Leonard Street London EC2A
