Rob Lowe: Details
Designer Rob Lowe has been producing artworks under the Supermundane banner for several years.
Lowe’s commercial work includes designs for Liberty and art direction of brilliant food magazine Fire & Knives.
His Supermundane work, meanwhile, is based around abstract, Mondrian-esque drawings, with organic overtones. Think Keith Haring taking on De Stijl…
For the Details exhibition, Lowe has taken tiny parts of his drawings and focused in on them to magnify and simplify the works.
He says, ‘I was interested in what it is about the works that gives the optical effect of depth.
‘I realised that nothing in my drawings exists in isolation and it is the way the lines (or rather the things they are outlining) interconnect that gives the feeling of depth.
‘The results are purely abstract and hard-edged but retain the optimism and movement of the original drawings.’
Rob Lowe: Details is at Kemistry Gallery, 43 Charlotte Road, London EC2, from 15-30 June.
It all feels a bit like the piping & vibrant colours of stained glass windows in churches & such. Or similar art deco glassware & tiling.
Icon Printing[dot]com have just uploaded a Q&A with Rob on their blog. It also features a preview of some of his new work, it’s a nice little read.
