See No Evil

Organised by Arts Council, London 2012 Festival and Bristol City Council and Bristol University, 30 artists have been chosen to adorn the streets for a week-long event.

Among the artists painting Bristol¹s streets are  abstract expressionist Remi Rough, New York based Mark Bode, Lyken, Nick Walker, alphabet painter Eine and Portuguese artist Vhils. The bunch are setting out to reinvent a selection of urban spaces such as Nelson Street.

All the visuals are being shown with a soundtrack from sister event Hear No Evil, organised by Team Love and featuring a series of music events throughout the week and a New York style Block Party this weekend on Nelson Street.

 Mike Bennett, organiser of See No Evil and place-making director of Bristol, says ‘The pieces created over the week will create a legacy from the project and a destination for urban art fans from all over the world. There are going to be some massive names from the world of graffiti involved this year, we’re really excited to welcome them.’

Opening the sound events will be ‘visual spectacular’ Mail, Maps & Motion on Friday from 3D Projection constualncy AntiVJ, which will be creating an installation in the Passenger Shed in Temple Meads, arranged with music by musicians Adrian Utley from Portishead and Will Gregory from Goldfrapp.

The Mail, Maps & Motion event will draw on the archive of the General Post Office Film unit and the history of Bristol’s Enterprise Zone. Clare Reddington, director of The Pervasive Media Studio, Watershed’s Creative Technology lab, says,‘The evening will explore themes of industry, modernity, technology and communication, juxtaposing our industrial past with the technological present.’
