The Poundshop to tour UK
Online budget-price design shop, The Poundshop will be pedalling its wares in a travelling shop this summer, designed by Studio Good One.
The Poundshop defines itself as ‘a platform for designers to sell designer goods under the strict brief that the product is to be sold within the affordable price bands £1, £5 and £10.’
In it moveable state The Poundshop will tour four London locations, and festival Secret Garden Party, Cambridgeshire, selling its ‘best of’ products, before showcasing its new lines at two as yet unconfirmed locations in September and December.
The Poundshop says, ‘Our aim is to spread design to a wider audience through price and engagement. By working with a wide range of designers , most of whom are new to making products, The Poundshop is the perfect testing ground for those looking to experiment with new and interesting products.’
We say, we like. Crucial to their model are low production overheads and small runs, which means good exposure for the designers with little risk. Poundshop 6 and 7 – the two unnamed dates – are calling for submissions http://thepoundshop.org/submissions-2/
The Poundshop hits High Street 2012 at Queen Mary University on 23 June, The London Festival of Architecture at The Architecture Foundation on 24 June 2012, and Networking event Glug at Cargo on 12 July.
Right up my street. Great idea. Keep it up.
Cheers,
