The Science Museum reveals Climate Changing Stories exhibition design

The Science Museum has looked to Anonymous, 3D designer Andy Feast and its own in-house design team for new exhibition Climate Changing Stories, which is told via a ‘trail’ throughout the museum, rather than through a gallery space.

‘This is a trail not a single point of focus and as ever we are trying to explain something quite complex in a way which will grab people quickly,’ says Scienec Museum head of creative direction Tim Molloy.

In 2010 the Atmosphere Galleries opened. Molloy says here the design had to address ‘hard facts’ but now Climate Changing Stories, which follows on from the exhibition, will tell ‘provocative cultural stories around the notion of climate change as an antidote to hard science.’

At each stage of the trail ‘repetitive elements’ will indicate its continuation, where a book on a lectern shows ‘deeper content’ to support displays, says Molloy.

Twenty stories will be told which The Science Museum says ‘combine science and imagination, artwork and artifact bringing together different periods and perspectives to show the range of ingenious ways humans have and will respond to the changing world around them.’

Among these is Artist collective Troika’s Plant Fiction, which tells the stories of five fictional plants that have been genetically modified to improve the world around us.

Elsewhere design stories will be told, like that of the lightbulb. A timeline display shows the development of the light bulb in 1890 and the phasing out of the incandescent light bulb this year in what Molloy calls ‘a straightforward piece of museology.’

Anonymous, which is run by consultant Fiona Barlow, was tasked with developing ‘conceptual proposals’ and delivered 2D designs, which were developed in-house. 3D design was developed by retained consultant Andy Feast according to Molloy.

Oh my GOD how history will laugh at this and all climate blame omen worship; “I see the signs….”
-Occupy denies climate change crisis because it does not even mention CO2 in its list of demands because of the bank-funded carbon trading stock markets run by corporations
–Julian Assange is a climate change “crisis” denier.
-Obama has not mentioned the crisis in the last two state of the unions.
-“Socialist” Canada voted in a climate change denying prime minister to a majority.
-Canada killed Y2Kyoto and nobody cared, especially the millions of scientists.
-NASA scientists have revolted against climate blame policy.
The Big Green Fear Machine is dead and history will brand us all as being fear mongering neocons.
If you want to be progressive, get up to date at least.
