Those who can’t Cannes can Cannt

‘Will you be in Cannes?’ is the current hot question in the industry, but those for whom the response is ‘no’ needn’t despair, with the second edition of London’s Cannt festival set to mop up the Cannes naysayers.

Established last year by creative directors from LBi, Wieden + Kennedy, Mother, Poke and other agencies, the festival (motto: ‘You Either Cannes or You Cannt) will take place from 17-23 June in a variety of London venues.

Last year featured a ‘Gutter Bar’ in east London’s Corbet Place, as well as link-ups to Cannes through the ‘Gutterbarometer’ app.

This year’s highlights include the Meatclub’s Breakfast with the Elders competition.

The competition offers ten students or recent graduates the opportunity to join Meatclub ‘elders’ – leading lights from the digital industry – for a special Meatclub Breakfast.

The brief is to either create a work based on the club’s Ode to Meat or design a new badge for the Meatclub Elders’ chefs’ jackets. Or both. For more information and to enter, visit www.themeatclub.org. The deadline is 13 June.

And on 19 June, Steve Price of Plan B Studio and London Design Festival deputy director Max Fraser will be holding a special edition of the Design Crimes series.

Design Crimes will see five panellists submit five examples of a ‘design crime’ before the discussion is opened up to the audience. Details are still being confirmed, but you can find out more here.
