The new cabin features what Virgin claims is the longest bar in the sky and the longest airline business class bed.
The project is part of a wider investment in the upper class product that also includes the new Clubhouse at JFK New York, which opened in March.
The new cabin has been in development for four years. Virgin’s in-house design team worked with Pengelly Design on the seats and VW+BS on the interiors and bar.
DHA worked on the lighting scheme for the cabin, which changes to help passengers relax, fall asleep and adjust to new time zones.
Virgin says it worked with groups of frequent fliers to test the new designs in the development stage.
The new cabins feature the Virgin red colour, along with 1000 Swarovski crystal accents.
The new upper class suite can convert from a seat to a bed and also uses Virgin’s JAM entertainment system.
The new cabins are going into service on the London Heathrow-New York JFK route this week before rolling out to the rest of Virgin’s Heathrow fleet.
