Vitsoe’s archive uncovered
When new employees join design-led furniture company Vitsoe, they’re given a vigorous induction of the company archive.
At the UK HQ in a Camden workshop, a wall of red folders tells an otherwise secret story from the company’s beginnings in 1959 to the present day.
Now they’re dipping into it, and over the course of this month, in no particular order, are sharing the best bits.
The brand is named after Neils Vitsoe who co-founded the company as a vessel for the furniture designs of industrial designer Dieter Rams.
Now sketches, photos, printed matter, brochures, and flyers are being fished out and placed on this tumblr which so far has given us all kinds of things – not just furniture.
Vitsoe says, ‘Since 1959 we have worked with Dieter Rams to create and evolve furniture that allows more people to live better, with less, that lasts longer.
‘Too often we have seen the delight on the faces of museum curators when we have opened our 50-year-old archive for them. We felt the time had come to share it more widely.’
