What inspires Malcolm Garrett?

Malcolm Garrett is displaying his collection of graphic novels, toys, books and other childhood ephemera at a new show in Manchester.

The World of Tomorrow: History of the Future, will be held at Manchester Metropolitan Museum’s Holden Gallery in the Grosvenor Building, the former home of Garrett’s alma mater Manchester Polytechnic.

As well as showing some of his childhood inspiration, the show will also feature work created by Garrett while he was studying in Manchester.

The exhibition, which forms part of the Manchester Children’s Book Festival, is predominantly aimed at children.

Garrett says, ‘I hope that by seeing a collection of items that captured my imagination as a kid, alongside work I subsequently made in this building, will illustrate an important correlation for our school visitors.

‘It shows that the books, toys, games and popular culture surrounding them now can be a catalyst for them too, and perhaps a few of our visitors will develop a creative career for themselves.’

The World of Tomorrow: History of the Future, is at The Holden Gallery, The Grosvenor Building, Cavendish Street, Manchester M15 from 29 June-13 July.
