Zero2illo
Frustrated at the lack of industry events around, illustrator Jonathan Woodward has organised his own Nottingham-based conference, which aims to help illustrators run more successful businesses.
Zero2illo Live, which is being held in November, is an extension of Woodward’s Zero2illo website, which he set up in 2009 to offer advice and resources for illustrators and other creatives.
The inaugural conference is based around the theme Opportunities and Inspiration, and speakers will include Where’s Stig? illustrator Rod Hunt, Manchester-based Stanley Chow, and Claire Cheung, tablet designer at Wired.
Woodward says the event is aimed more at showing illustrators how to run a business, rather than investigating, for example, illustration techniques.
It will cover topics such as how illustrators should market themselves and what they need to do to keep up with new technology.
He says, ‘Working as an illustrator can be quite an isolated life. I wanted to organise something that would not only bring us all together but that other illustrators would also find genuinely valuable.
‘We’ve deliberately chosen a venue outside of London – in the middle of the country – to make it accessible and affordable to as many illustrators as possible around the UK.’
Zero2illo Live is being held at Nottingham Conference Centre, Burton Street, Nottingham NG1, on 10 November. For more information visit zero2illo.com.
