A new identity for Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace Football Club has unveiled a new crest, which has been designed by fan Dan Mulcahy who has worked with the club’s in-house design team.
The unveiling follows a move by the club to put several crests to public vote last year.
Mulcahy’s design has been developed by Robert Deacon, an in-house designer at the club who has created brand guidelines.
The new design comprises a redrawn eagle with its wings aloft, and a redrawn Crystal Palace, which is now simpler and has more depth.
The team takes its name from the Crystal Palace, which housed the Great Exhibition of 1851, but was lost to a fire in 1936.
Fans suggested the club’s formation date, 1905 be added, so this has also been included in the new design.
Club co-chairman Steve Parish says, ‘The new badge has been designed to be able to be used in different ways. The crest will be seen with a shield in a “coat of arms format” around the stadium, without a shield on the club kit, on training wear and in the media, as well as a simplified version for some casual clothing and merchandise.’
He adds, ‘This new design will re-produce much better than the old line drawing, and features a stronger more dynamic eagle that brings our club image into the 21st Century.’
Great job Robert & Co. A great re-brand. It will take some getting used to, but it is a far more aggressive and proud icon for our football club. Keep up the great work, can’t wait to see the new kit.

Ice hockey team?
Bit too much Americana creeping into that eagle illustration for me.
