New Designers Selection

As Britain’s Olympic heroes polish their medals and reflect on their fantastic achievements in Beijing, the focus now shifts to London and the successes of a different sort of talent.

The London Design Festival is key to the creative calendar, raising the debate about design, attracting people from across the globe and highlighting great local designers. It aims to inspire and influence people from all spheres, from the business and industrial communities to politicians and the public at large.

It also seeks to draw together the creative community and encourage collaboration between designers and clients.

It is only right, therefore, that New Designers Selection should use the festival platform to showcase some of Britain’s best emerging talent. Design graduates constitute one of our greatest assets, not just because of the expertise they have acquired during their studies, but because of the way they view the world, finding new answers to old problems or setting a different agenda in areas such as sustainability.

New Designers offers a chance to explore fresh talent to potential buyers and talent-spotters.The annual show organised by Upper Street Events at London’s Business Design Centre is the capital’s longeststanding graduate event and is always inspiring.

New Designers Selection represents the best from the July event. Some 50 outstanding young creatives have been chosen by the New Designers award judges to take part in the show atVillage Underground in fashionable Shoreditch.

As you can see from this preview, the work focuses on threedimensional design, with an array of furniture, accessories, lighting, ceramics, glass and product design on display. But it’s not just about artefacts. It’s about the designers too. So go along to meet them. It’ll be time well spent.
