Income growth tempered by cost warning for design groups

Willott Kingston Smith’s annual survey holds a warning for design consultancies, as operating costs continue to rise in the face of potentially challenging trading circumstances.

The report, Financial Performance of Marketing Services Companies, published today, reveals that design groups still find it harder than any other marketing discipline to control their costs.

Rising rents and salaries are two challenges that design consultancies will have to face going into the New Year.

However, the figures reveal that the design industry is currently in rude health. The top 30 consultancies surveyed recorded gross income growth of 7 per cent last year.

Imagination topped the tables, both for income and turnover, with The Brand Union, formerly Enterprise IG, also performing well.
