Newbury Racecourse is undertaking a major rebranding exercise by Abingdon-based marketing and design group Syndicut.

The racecourse wants to redefine itself as a venue for activities other than racing, in a bid to exploit its potential as a space for conferences and exhibitions as well as drawing attention to its 18-hole golf course and children’s nursery.

Syndicut was appointed in August and recently begun the first phase of its work, which includes revamping marketing collateral including brochures, corporate stationery and ticket wallets, and completely developing the racecourse’s website for launch early 2008.

The racecourse, which is on the verge of £45m of redevelopment activity, was plunged into uncertainty on 14 November when the Guinness Peat Group, a shareholder in the racecourse, announced plans for a buy-out in a bid to defeat the proposed redevelopment, which GPG said it felt was ‘ill advised’.

However, Newbury Racecourse director Stephen Higgins says this will not affect the rebranding plans.
